Frequently asked questions
Compounding Medicine
While all licensed pharmacists are trained to understand and perform basic compounding, most compounding is done in pharmacies that have invested in the necessary lab equipment and specialized training to do so safely and efficiently.
No. Although there are minimum regulatory standards to make sure compounded medications are safe, our pharmacy has the latest state of the art equipment including a USP 800 certified lab in Montana to ensure you are getting the safest and highest quality compounded medications possible.
Unfortunately most compounded medications are not typically covered by insurance. We try to meet the price of your co-pay for a prescription through your insurance company. Give us a call to check on costs for your personalized compound today.
Yes, all compounded medications made in our labs require a prescription from a doctor’s office.
We strive for a 24 hour turnaround time on any prescription, but depending on urgency and ingredient availability we will be able to provide you with a specific pickup time when we receive the prescription.
If you have remaining refills on your prescription, just give us a call and we can refill as soon as you need it. If you need more refills, we can work directly with your provider.
Compounded medications may cost less than you think, even with each compounded medication being handcrafted by a Pharmacist or Pharmacy technician to meet your individual needs. The out-of-pocket cost is often comparable to some medications covered by insurance.
Yes
Compounding is necessary when a patient is not able to tolerate the commercially available drug, the exact preparation needed is unavailable commercially, or the drug needed by a patient is in shortage or discontinued.
Compounding medication involves preparing, labeling and packing of a medicine. Dispensing involves giving an already available packed medicine manufactured by a pharmaceutical manufacturer, to a patient with a prescription.
Both the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and state governments regulate compounding. The FDA defers regulation of compounding to state authorities. The state boards of pharmacy oversee pharmacy practices within the states, while the state veterinary medical boards oversee the practice of veterinary medicine, including prescribing.
We often cater to allergies and dietary restrictions, including common requests for dye-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, or dairy-free compounded medications.
Private Consultations
After completing hormone testing and an evaluation questionnaire, we will schedule your private consultation. This will be with a medical provider who works directly with MAC or a Pharmacist. During the consultation, we will review symptoms, discuss medical history, and inquire about current medications. In addition to a treatment recommendation, we will discuss recommendations in regards to dietary and lifestyle changes that may be impacting your hormonal balance. A practitioner who is licensed to prescribe BHRT and directly associated with MAC can write necessary prescriptions for your medication to be compounded, or we can work directly with your practitioner if you prefer.
In mid-life, our hormone levels tend to decline and can cause uncomfortable symptoms. Hormone replacement therapy is one treatment option that we will discuss during your private consultation.
Our compounding pharmacy can create high-quality, customized prescription hormones that are structurally identical to natural hormones, that are at the lowest possible dose, and that are in the particular dosage form that best suits an individual patient’s needs.
Personalized medicine means individualized responses. It does take 6 to 8 weeks for hormones to stabilize and we will continue to check in on your progress through that period. Adjustments are not typically made until the end of this time frame.
Absolutely! We are proud to support remote areas of Montana, as well as patients across the country. Just give us a call to set up a consultation.
Yes! Because we can customize your prescription hormones for your individual needs, we can ensure that you are receiving the lowest appropriate dose, and that it is in the particular dosage form that best suits an individual patient’s needs.
We really hope so - it’s been our pleasure to have already helped so many folks! A provider and pharmacist will work together utilizing additional professional resources from around the USA to determine the best individualized options and course of treatment for you. We will provide you with an honest and transparent evaluation at the time of your private consultation.
High Quality Supplements
There is also no question that ALL SUPPLEMENTS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL. This fact can be very confusing to the public who, naturally, want to seek out the best supplements available to obtain optimal outcomes. Where many companies seek out the least expensive ingredients for their products, we seek only the highest quality ingredients for our products. We feature “professional-grade” quality supplements.
“Professional-grade” means that the quality and purity of our supplements are beyond question and are tested many times during the production process. These ingredients are further tested for purity and potency by certified labs. Most importantly, herbal extracts and natural products are standardized to provide consistent levels of their primary active marker compounds. We can state with pride that our herbal products are continually tested “from the farm to the pharmacy.”
Our compounding pharmacy can create high-quality, customized prescription hormones that are structurally identical to natural hormones, that are at the lowest possible dose, and that are in the particular dosage form that best suits an individual patient’s needs.
Once the raw materials are received by the manufacturer, certified labs once again test those materials for potency, purity and identity of the ingredients. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP), and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) are just a few of the high-level tests used to ensure that only the best ingredients are going into supplements. Microbiological testing is also performed to detect any biological impurities in the ingredient samples.
Finally, the manufacturers are NSF International and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) registered. They are ISO 9001 certified and the testing labs are ISO 17025 accredited. Written standard operating procedures (SOPs) are adhered to, ensuring consistent product quality. Finally, the finished products meet and often exceed USP specifications.
